Martin and his wife, Ramona, were in the middle of a particularly nasty divorce. Although Martin had
moved out, he went back to the house to pick up a few things when Ramona was there. They got into a heated argument. Ramona, a drama queen, then created a major scene that got all the neighbors' attention and aroused their hostility against Martin. Then Ramona filed for a temporary restraining order against Martin. When he was served, Martin was scared to death. He knew Ramona had all the neighbors on her side. Ramona had already been blocking his timesharing as much as she could. Martin was very concerned that this maneuver on Ramona's part would cut him off from his kids completely. Martin didn't want to take any chances. Martin retained me as his domestic violence restraining order attorney to defend against the protective order. Ramona's attorney hadn't anticipated that Martin would have a domestic violence attorney representing him in domestic violence court. Up until then, the lawyer been running the whole divorce show, because Martin hadn't hired a divorce attorney. After my brief conversation with Ramona's attorney, he got my loud and clear message that Ramona was not going to have her way with Martin in domestic violence court. And Ramona wasn't going to look very good before the judge ... who would eventually decide timesharing. Ramona dropped her domestic violence case on the spot and the domestic violence court dismissed her domestic violence protective order. Not only that but, while we were all at the courthouse, Martin and I made some headway on getting Ramona to agree to give him some more visitation with their children now that these domestic violence allegations were cleared up. Martin couldn't have been happier. NOTE: Every case is different. Just because Martin achieved this outcome doesn't mean that your case will.
